The outflow of travellers leaving cities for Easter holidays is expected to be considerable this year following two years of Covid restrictions that severely limited travel.

Tourism-sector enterprises at popular Greek destinations are preparing for the year’s first big wave of tourists, primarily domestic travellers going away for their Easter breaks. The limited availability of rooms at this early stage of the season is expected to result in high occupancy rates.

In addition, reservations from abroad are at satisfactory levels, compared to figures last year.

Easter holiday costs this year are expected to be higher compared to previous years, primarily as a result of heftier transportation costs. On the contrary, accommodation costs can be subdued if travellers extensively research the market for fair-priced deals.

Travel.gr conducted a survey of accommodation choices available on Booking.com between Good Friday (April 22) and Easter Monday (April 25) at ten popular island destinations around Greece: Corfu, Mykonos, Zakynthos, Hania (Crete), Paros, Naxos, Rhodes, Kos, Lesvos and Skiathos.

The accommodation choices looked for at these destinations covered hotels, villas, apartments, holiday homes and guesthouses. Criteria correlating favourable user comments and lowest prices were used and a price range of between 100 and 150 euros per night was set for the survey.

Given this criteria, no vacancies were found at some destinations, a trend expected to continue and result in a diminished number of vacancies as the Easter break approaches.

The Travel.gr survey found, based on the aforementioned criteria, a total of 249 available accommodation choices for Corfu, the country’s most popular destination for Easter holidays. Accommodation choices at the island’s main town were limited, prompting higher prices.

Based on the survey’s search criteria, a total of 115 vacant holiday rentals were found for Mykonos, 248 units were vacant on Santorini, 131 vacancies were found on Zakynthos, 144 at the Cretan town Hania, 78 vacancies were found for Paros, 95 for Naxos, 229 for Rhodes, 30 for Kos, 30 for Lesvos and 17 for Skiathos.
