The dynamic growth of online media in Greece has brought about major changes in travel reporting over the past 15 or so years, shedding light on many spots which, until recently, were known by few, even when located in highly popular regions.

Agridia beach in Halkidiki is a classic example. An idyllic sandy beach with superb crystal-clear waters, it had remained among the region’s best-kept secrets for decades. Only visitors who had travelled extensively to cover Halkidiki’s entire Sithonia peninsula, the middle leg, and were well acquainted with its eastern side, knew about Agridia.

More recently, Agridia’s profile has changed completely as a result of considerable media coverage that has drawn the attention of an entire new group of people, as well as its popular beach bar. Although Agridia attracts many visitors, especially during Greek summer’s peak months of July and August, the beach has managed to maintain its sense of remoteness and beauty.

Picturesque beach resembling a Scandinavian fjord

Agridia is a picturesque bay that is well sheltered from the region’s winds. Its waters only get choppy with easterly winds. The small beach, approximately 100 metres long, is sandy. Its water colour alternates from bluish to green. The water deepens gradually, making the beach ideal for families with young children. Its seabed is also impressive. Equipping yourself with a diving mask, preferably with snorkel, is recommended.

The large rocks, as well as the underwater rocks, at both sides of the bay are standout features that set Agridia apart from the Sithonia peninsula’s other beaches along the eastern side. This trademark feature, like a sea corridor, makes the beach look like a small fjord.

Visitors may choose from the serviced and non-serviced sides at the beach. The beach bar, as mentioned above, has become very popular in recent years, helping attract a fair number of visitors to the beach, mainly families with children, especially on weekends during July and August. Prior to and after this busy period, Agridia is a serene spot ideal for holidaymakers preferring to take their breaks slightly before or after summer’s peak season.

To its credit, the beach bar at the beach does not charge for the use of sunbeds. Customers pay only for the food, coffee or drinks they order. The spot’s coffee is very good, while carefully prepared, satisfying food choices are also served. The zucchini fritters and grilled prawns are recommended. Keep in mind that the online POS system for card payments is sometimes down because of the beach’s remote location, so carrying some cash for transactions is useful here.

Agridia is located on the eastern side of Halkidiki’s middle peninsula, Sithonia, looking towards the Siggitiko Gulf. Access is very easy as the beach is close to Sarti and Sykia. Choosing either of the two leads to an intersection on the plateau of the local hill, from where a dirt road leading to the beach may be seen. Vehicles may reach as far as the beach area. Plenty of parking spaces are available.
