For the first time in Greece, a ski resort officially opens its gates to cyclists who want to combine their favourite sport with descents on snow-covered slopes and more. Elatochori Ski Centre aspires to become a hub of alternative activities in nature throughout the year, instead of operating only during the winter months for snow sports.

Located at an altitude of 1450 m. in a gorgeous location with spectacular views of Mount Olympus and Aliakmonas River, Elatochori Ski Centre is a favourite destination for winter sports enthusiasts, since it boasts a total of ten slopes with altitude differences and varying degrees of difficulty, satisfying both experienced and demanding skiers as well as beginners. At the same time, there are two slopes dedicated exclusively to snowboarding and sledding, offering great thrills to young and old alike.

In fact, for the first time in Greece, an attempt is being made to follow the successful example of ski resorts abroad that operate all year round, offering a variety of activities (cycling, hiking, climbing, etc.) in addition to winter sports. This ensures both the sustainability of the ski resorts and the further strengthening of local communities.

The rise of mountain biking in Greece, and especially downhill cycling, allows the orientation of the operation of Ski Centres in this direction. Moreover, the absence of snow and the low temperatures for a long period of time in Greece do not allow ski resorts to limit themselves exclusively to winter sports, extending their operation to the field of alternative activities in nature all year round. In this context, Elatochori Ski Centre welcomes mountain biking enthusiasts. In addition, as officially announced, during the summer months, the lift and chalet will operate only on weekends at first.

On the weekend of January 8 and 9, Elatochori Ski Centre attempts to offer one more activity in the dead of winter, aiming to become a favourite destination for mountain biking enthusiasts. Cyclists who want to experience a descent on the snow-covered slopes can make use of the lift, at a reduced price, taking their bikes up the 1,700 metres to cycle up the green and blue slopes and then head down to the chalet. Bicycles will be transported by the two-seater aerial lift “Dias”.

Note that it is a completely safe and fun activity, as long as you are experienced, have the right equipment and follow the safety measures. In addition to experience, you need a bike in perfect condition, studded tyres (snow tyres) and of course a helmet and MTB- ENDURO equipment. For any information and clarification, those interested can contact Mr Dimitris Milioris -certified volunteer rescuer, cycling guide, MTB Leader at +30 6992 325747.
