Fly

Fly to Athens: Most international flights arrive at the Athens International Airport (ATH). Alternatively, you can fly into another major Greek city with an international airport, such as Thessaloniki.

Domestic Flight or Ferry to Kefalonia: From Athens, either take a domestic flight to Kefalonia Island International Airport (EFL) or travel to the port of Patras or Kyllini and take a ferry to Kefalonia. Ferries are operated by companies such as Levante Ferries, Kefalonian Lines, and Ionian Group.

Ferry from Kefalonia to Ithaki: Upon arriving in Kefalonia, take a local ferry from the port of Sami to Ithaki. The journey usually takes about 25 minutes. Ferry services are operated by companies like Ionian Pelagos and Kefalonian Lines. Check the schedules and book your tickets in advance, especially during the high season.

Arrive in Ithaki: Ferries will arrive at one of the three ports in Ithaki: Vathy, Pisaetos (Aetos), or Frikes. Vathy is the capital of Ithaca, located on the southern part of the island, while Pisaetos is the main port on the southwestern part, opposite Kefalonia, and Frikes is on the northwestern coast. The Ithaca Port Authority is at the port of Vathy, where most traveler services are located. Note that there are no visitor amenities at the port of Pisaetos.

Island hopping from Ithaki is easy, as it is close to Kefalonia. Regular routes from the port of Pisaetos to Kefalonia are available during the summer months. Occasionally, more direct routes from Ithaca to other islands in the Ionian Sea are also available.

During peak season, there are ferry routes from the port of Patras to Ithaca. Ferries from Patras to Ithaca travel directly to the port of Pisaetos in Ithaca or stop at Kefalonia before continuing the journey. The journey duration is around 3.5 hours.
