Getting There

By Ferry

Journeying to Kefalonia by ferry is not just a mode of transport, it’s an experience in itself. While the port of Piraeus in Athens doesn’t offer direct ferries to Kefalonia, don’t let that deter you. Numerous other ports on the western side of the Greek mainland, several Ionian islands, and even the distant Brindisi port in Italy provide avenues to this beautiful Greek island.

There are four welcoming ports in Kefalonia: Poros, Fiscardo, Sami, and Lixouri, each with its distinct routes. If you find yourself in Ithaca, Lefkada, Killini, or Zakynthos, aim for Poros port. From Ithaca and Lefkada, you can catch a ferry to the picturesque Fiscardo port. Sami port, with its charming coastal town, is accessible from Patra, Ithaca, Paxi, and even Brindisi in Italy. Finally, if you’re in Killini, you can chart a course for Lixouri port.

By Air

If seas aren’t your calling, then the sky might be your route. Kefalonia International Airport, named in honor of “Anna Pollatou,” welcomes domestic flights from Athens, Corfu, and Zakynthos throughout the year. During the summer months, the airport comes alive with an influx of flights from different corners of Europe. The quick hop from Athens to Kefalonia is a mere hour-long journey.

Nestled about 8 km away from the bustling city center of Argostoli, the airport is your gateway to Kefalonia. Upon touching down, you have multiple options to reach your final destination. Public transport offers an authentic local experience, while renting a car provides the freedom to explore at your own pace. And of course, for immediate comfort, a taxi ride is always at your disposal.
