Here are the ways to get to the beautiful island of Spetses, located in the Saronic Gulf of Greece.

Fly to Athens International Airport (ATH): You’ll need to fly to Athens, which is the closest international airport to Spetses. The airport, “Eleftherios Venizelos,” receives both domestic and international flights all year round.

Direct sea route from Athens (Piraeus Port)
a. Hydrofoil, catamaran, or high-speed ferry: From Athens, head to Piraeus Port, where you can catch a hydrofoil, catamaran, or high-speed ferry to Spetses. Ferries depart from Piraeus port daily, around five times per day. The journey takes approximately 2 to 3 hours, depending on the type of vessel and the stops along the way. Be sure to check the schedules and book your tickets in advance, as they may vary depending on the season.

Spetses is also connected by ferry with other Saronic Gulf islands, such as Poros and Hydra, as well as some locations on the eastern coast of Peloponnese, such as Ermioni and Porto Heli.

Land route – Bus or car to Kosta Port
a. Bus: From Athens, head to the Kifissos Bus Station (KTEL). Buses run regularly from here to Kosta Port, which is the closest point to Spetses on the mainland. The journey takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours.
b. Car: Rent a car at Athens Airport or in the city center and drive to Kosta Port. The distance is approximately 180 km (112 miles), and the drive should take around 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on traffic.

Sea route – Ferry or water taxi from Kosta Port
a. Ferry: Once you arrive at Kosta Port, take a ferry to Spetses. The journey lasts about 20-30 minutes, and ferries run frequently throughout the day. Check the schedules in advance as they may vary depending on the season.
b. Water taxi: Alternatively, you can take a water taxi from Kosta Port to Spetses. This option is faster, with the journey taking about 10-15 minutes, but it’s also more expensive than the ferry.
