Karapanagiotou started by expressing her enthusiasm for participating in this international event and that she is particularly pleased that sustainable cultural tourism is on the agenda. She plans to share a recent story from the National Archaeological Museum, highlighting an innovative new programme that is aimed at renewing visitor experiences. This fresh approach, she hopes, will set a benchmark for cultural organisations globally, transforming the museum into a truly inclusive space. We can’t wait to find out more.

The museum director’s academic journey includes studies in History, Archaeology, and Art History at the University of Athens, followed by postgraduate studies in Munich and a PhD from the University of Athens. She coordinated the re-exhibition of the Archaeological Museum of Tegea in 2016, earning special recognition from the European Museum Forum. As of January 2021, she was appointed Director of the National Archaeological Museum of Athens and later became its General Director in April 2023. Since May 2023, she also holds the title of “International Advisor” to the National Museum of Art of China and has been awarded the Knight First Class of the Order of the Lion of Finland for her services to the Finnish people.
