The upgraded mobile application of the Ministry of Tourism and the GNTO (Greek National Tourism Organisation), Visit Greece App, significantly strengthened its position during the past year.

This digital tool is now one of the main means of promoting Greek tourism internationally, as it has been enriched with new detailed content regarding the attractions, the services provided in the various tourist destinations and the health measures and travel procedures applicable in Greece during the pandemic era.

As a result, the application:

– attracted more than 1.7 million users last year,

-kept more than 75% of users active and in constant interaction with the app; and

-recorded around 2.5 million downloads.

The further promotion of the Visit Greece application in 2021 was significantly enhanced by the new usable functions and modules created in its content, as well as by a series of promotion and communication actions designed and implemented by the Hellenic Tourism Organisation in Greece and abroad.

More specifically:

– A special section has been set up to serve travellers and instil a sense of security against the Covid-19 pandemic. It has been operational since 2020 with updated information on all the health measures in place at any given time, as well as the documents necessary for visitors travelling to Greece. At the same time, a digital map of 610 diagnostic centres and 74 public Covid sampling points across the country was created to facilitate the access of visitors to them.

-A special section was created to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the 1821 Greek War of Independence, which included an interactive map of 130 historical points around the country and links to heroes of 1821, tributes and an interactive game – a quiz about the Greek War of Independence.

Among other things, the following were also added to the content:

-25 ski resorts and 22 marinas across the country, as well as all beaches with Blue Flag.

-The possibility to book tickets for museums, archaeological sites, ferries, as well as car rental, etc.

-Free promotion of tourism businesses. To date, 4,500 businesses have been promoted, of which 3,000 have been added in the past year.

As regards the actions to promote the application, the following are indicative:

-7 competitions using gamification, in which a total of more than 100,000 users participated,

-50 in-app campaigns aimed at promoting destinations according to the season and thematic tourism products, such as gastronomy, etc.

-35 newsletter campaigns to promote all regions of Greece and the multitude of thematic products available in the country.

-New services/features provided by the application such as travel stories where users have the possibility to upload their own photos from their trip to Greece. The stories are very popular and in 2021 more than 400,000 were “uploaded”!

In conclusion, it should be noted that the overall redesign of the application, aiming at better and easier navigation, was carried out alongside the new redesign of the visitgreece.gr website, with the kind support of Mastercard and Eurobank. It was implemented by Warply.
