Voidomatis bridge – Klidonia bridge

Embark on a refreshing walk alongside Voidomatis, starting from the concrete bridge after Aristi. Once you cross the bridge and reach the first uphill hairpin bend on the road to Papigo, you’ll find the beginning of the path on your left. As you walk, you’ll have the chance to admire stunning geomorphological formations, caves, and the unique nature of the area.

About halfway along the route, take a small detour to the right to discover the beautiful monastery of Agioi Anargyroi Klidoniavista. Nestled among vertical cliffs with caves – once used for asceticism – as well as plane trees and water, this serene spot is sure to enchant you. Although the cells around the katholikon (the main church) are now in ruins, the church itself remains standing as a testament to the monastery’s rich history. According to inscriptions, Agii Anargyri was built in 1658.

As you continue along the bank of Voidomatis, just before its waters flow into the valley of Konitsa to meet those of Aoos, you’ll come across the stunning single-arch bridge of Kleydoniavista. This bridge is perfectly integrated into the surrounding landscape and is a true marvel of engineering.

Built with the sponsorship of Balqiz Hanum, from the harem of Malik Pasha, in 1853, the bridge is named after the mountain village of Upper Klidonia (formerly Klidoniavista). The bridge’s intricate design and stunning natural setting make it a must-see for anyone visiting the area.

The ascent to Gamila (Tymfi)

To truly appreciate the beauty of the Gamila mountain range, you’ll need more than just a weekend to conquer its hiking trails. These routes, which reach great heights, are not recommended during the winter months. Divided into three parts, they all begin at Mikro Papigko.

The first route takes you up to the shelter at 1,930m, while the second route leads to Drakolimni. The third route, which is the most challenging, takes you to the summit of Gamila, and can take up to six hours to complete. Despite the difficulty of the climb, the breathtaking scenery makes it all worth it. As you hike, you’ll have stunning views of the Astraka towers plunging vertically down to meet Voidomatis, creating a unique and unforgettable experience for nature enthusiasts.
