The stunning Mykonos with the strong summer vibes is home to some of the most impressive and hedonistic beach clubs in the world, built on the beach, under the Cycladic sun, with amazing views of the Aegean blue.

Their sexy, elegant boho décor creates an appealing, laidback setting while the sounds of electronic music by celebrated Greek and international DJs and producers take things to the next level, starting with organic house and downtempo and moving on, as the evening progresses, to deep house, afro house and up-tempo and then to electronic and techno house beats.

Their excellent cuisine, the creative cocktails, the impressive wine and champagne lists, together with the impeccable service complete the unique experience. It’s not an exaggeration to say that if a beach club in Mykonos doesn’t have something, then no other beach club in the world will have it either. We travelled to the Island of the Winds and recommend five unique beach clubs.

Scorpios

Scorpios is not just a beach club; it is a community with a specific way of life that many clubs around the world try to imitate. Built on the peninsula of Paraga beach, it’s surrounded by the wonderful waters of the Aegean and enjoys the sunshine from early in the morning until those precious last minutes that the sun submerges into the sea spreading fiery colours all over the sky.  In a unique boho style with earthy tones it blends into the natural landscape, while the perfectly landscaped plants and palm trees add an exotic touch. The comfy sunbeds under the shade of pergolas on the beach, the sofas and cushions on the sand, the straw light fixtures and the macrame hammocks comprise a laidback, cosmopolitan vibe. Up-and-coming, as well as celebrated bands, like PAAX (Tulum), and internationally acclaimed Greek DJs and producers including Rey&Kjavik, Jean Claude Ades and Valeron create, on a daily basis, a party with thousands of visitors dancing to the electronic beats that are often combined with traditional Greek and middle eastern instruments like the Cretan lyre, the bouzouki and the oud.

The unique cuisine of Scorpios with the excellent executive chef  Athinagoras Kostakos (Noema, Loco) and head chef Alexis Zopas offer a one-of-a-kind culinary experience of Greek food with Mexican elements. The menu includes tasty mezze, refreshing salads, decadent pasta and risotto dishes, perfectly grilled cuts, fish, seafood, shellfish, as well as delicious desserts prepared by Spiros Artelaris.

The spicy salad with the black tomatoes, the thinly chopped sausage and the fresh chilly is wonderful; the grilled aubergine with feta amazing; the grilled tiger prawns with garlic oil, coriander and smoked paprika are exceptionally rich, while the juicy iberico ribs are epic. Amazing champagne and wines from the Greek and international vineyard perfectly accompany the meal. “Our aim is to provide food for thought, to provide inspiration, and to see one step ahead. This is a great responsibility,” Athinagoras tells us.  But it’s something Scorpios seems to do naturally. Coming next, they plan to branch out in other corners of the world, starting with Tulum, Mexico, where they are scheduled to open in early 2023.

Costa Rica, Bali and Amalfi are some other destinations being considered for new locations of this unique experience called Scorpios.

Alemagou

On a remote bay, east of the lovely Ftelia beach you’ll find one of the most sensual beach clubs of Mykonos, Alemagou. Traditional Cycladic elements wonderfully mix with the chic boho design, earthy colours of natural wood and stone, and beautiful plants all create a truly relaxing atmosphere. Roomy sunbeds on the soft sand under straw umbrellas, comfy sofas with fluffy cushions at the lounge, natural materials used for shade, and light fixtures made of gourds all comprise a space of unique aesthetics with the amazing view of the crystal-clear sea and the blue sky. Secluded from the world, Alemagou seems to be on its own course, following its own rhythm. Electronic music, that gets louder as the time passes, by famous producers and DJs including Hernán Cattáneo, Tale of Us, Eelke van Kleijn and Blond:ish. The bar extends an open invitation for refreshing cocktails, like the exciting Alemagou Pornstar that has vodka, passion fruit, vanilla and coconut foam, while the restaurant, led by executive chef Thomas Matsas (Zurbaram, Yalos) will surprise you with its amazing Greek cuisine.

Excellent appetizers, filling salads, exuberant spaghetti and giouvetsi dishes (traditional orzo and beef dish), fresh fish and seafood, tasty meats and luscious desserts comprise a menu of great delight. The menu includes, among other choices, refreshing red porgy carpaccio, delicious fava spread with the smoked eel and lime, exceptional steamed mussels with ginger, lemongrass and fries, amazing chickpea and shrimp salad, sea urchin spaghetti, wagyu gyros with cherry tomatoes confit, onion pickle, yogurt and goats cheese sauce and crispy pitta, all exceptional.

The long list of quality wines and champagnes is equally impressive, while the creative, delectable desserts, like the deconstructed galaktompoureko (traditional custard pie) with crispy filo pastry, marinated in honey and cinnamon, velvety semolina cream with orange notes and Madagascar vanilla ice cream, complete the meal. “For us, successful Greek cuisine is to wake and also create memories with our food, not for it to just taste good” the chef tells us. A goal that his incredible food has easily achieved, in our opinion.

Built in a great location on the west side of the legendary Super Paradise beach, JackieO’ is a sexy beach club with a vibrant party atmosphere. Mirrors, bamboo furniture and chic black ornaments are added to the Cycladic décor creating a relaxing and at the same time sensual setting. The sunbeds on the beach and the pool on the rock, with the turquoise sea and the blue sky in the background that is set aflame at sunset, offer moments of relaxation, while at the bar they make amazing cocktails including the unique JackieO’ with Veuve Clicquot Rosé champagne, Otto’s Athens vermouth and apricot cognac. Mainstream house music keeps the party going, while there’s a Drag Queen show daily, as well as line-ups with famous DJs and producers like Ultra Naté, Abel Aguilera and Jarred Baker, as well as famous singers like house and soul singer Barbara Tucker who take the party to the next level. Renowned chef Christoforos Peskias (Dopios, Balthazar) is in charge of the kitchen for the past eight years, while this year chef Dimos Balopoulos joined him, and together they create Greek fusion dishes with emphasis on seasonal ingredients.

The menu comprises of dishes with fresh, raw, as well as perfectly grilled, fish and seafood, including shellfish, tasty salads, rich pasta, premium meat cuts and amazing desserts.

The Mykonian seabass sashimi with sea urchin, bottarga, tomato and passion fruit, served on grilled bread is very special, the beetroot salad with smoked eel and Cretan mizithra cheese is very refreshing, the sweet-and-sour salmon, marinated in soya sauce, lemongrass and honey is very tender, the crispy meatballs with bulgur and yogurt sauce are delectable, while the baked lamb za’atar with lemon and oil sauce is very rich and tasty. The extensive list of wines and champagne and the great desserts by Alexandros Koniaris pleasantly complete the meal. “It’s good to follow trends, but not to copy them” Christoforos Peskias tells us. It’s clear to regulars that JackieO’ is constantly renewed, following trends but preserving its unique character.
