Ούτε ένα, ούτε πέντε, ούτε δέκα, αλλά 18 εστιατόρια περιλαμβάνει ο περίφημος οδηγός Michelin στο Μπράιτον και αυτό λέει πολλά για την εστιατορική σκηνή της βρετανικής πόλης. Το Μπράιτον που έχει ενοποιηθεί με τη διπλανή πόλη Χόουβ δε μετρά πάνω από 290.000 κατοίκους και όμως οι επιλογές για φαγητό είναι ανεξάντλητες. Σε απόσταση 76 χιλιομέτρων από το Λονδίνο, η παραθαλάσσια πόλη έχει εξελιχθεί σε πόλο έλξης για τους Λονδρέζους, οι οποίοι την επιλέγουν για μια σύντομη απόδραση από τη μεγαλούπολη ή για ένα Σαββατοκύριακο δίπλα στα κύματα.
Good Companions
Μια κλασική βρετανική παμπ είναι το «Good Companions» με μεγάλη επιλογή σε μπίρες σε βαρέλι, ευρύχωρη αυλή με ξεχωριστά booths για ιδιωτικότητα αλλά και μεγάλα κοινά τραπέζια. Το μεγάλο κτίριο είναι χτισμένο με πέτρα και τούβλο και όλα προδιαθέτουν για το κλασικό μενού της βρετανικής παμπ. Μεγάλη επιλογή σε ζουμερά μπέργκερς, το θρυλικό fish & chips σερβιρισμένο όπως πρέπει με τηγανητές πατάτες κομμένες στο χέρι, σος ταρτάρ και πουρέ αρακά και σαλάτες.

Αν βρεθείτε στο Μπράιτον Κυριακή, εδώ θα έρθετε για το «Sunday Roast», θα πρέπει όμως να έχετε κλείσει τραπέζι γιατί η ζήτηση είναι μεγάλη. Την Κυριακή οι Βρετανοί απολαμβάνουν ένα πλούσιο γεύμα, το οποίο, στη βασική του εκδοχή, περιλαμβάνει ψητό κρέας, ψητά λαχανικά, αλμυρή πουτίγκα και σάλτσα. Στη παμπ «Good Companions» προσφέρουν διάφορες παραλλαγές με χοιρινή πανσέτα, ψητό κοτόπουλο και μοσχάρι.

Ο οδηγός Michelin το προτείνει για το τυδωριανό κτίριο, για το φιλικό σέρβις και τα σωστά εκτελεσμένα πιάτα, που βασίζονται στη βρετανική παράδοση αλλά έχουν επιρροές και από τις κουζίνες της Ευρώπης, της Ασίας και της Βόρειας Αφρικής. Το μοντέρνο και κομψό περιβάλλον είναι το κατάλληλο μέρος να βρεθείτε ένα βροχερό μεσημέρι.

Isaac At
Επίσης προτεινόμενο από τον οδηγό Michelin, το μικρό εστιατόριο χωράει μόλις 20 άτομα και χρειάζεται κράτηση καιρό πριν. Το βασικό μότο του εστιατορίου είναι τα φρέσκα, τοπικά προϊόντα και το μενού αλλάζει ανάλογα με τις εποχές. Το εστιατόριο δημοσιεύει τη λίστα προμηθευτών του, οι οποίοι είναι όλοι στην ευρύτερη περιοχή του Σάσεξ. Ακόμα και η λίστα κρασιών είναι αυστηρά αγγλική με κρασιά κυρίως από τη Νότια Αγγλία.

Brewdog Brighton
Φημίζεται για τα ζουμερά και νόστιμα μπέργκερ της αυτή η παμπ που βρίσκεται κοντά στη θάλασσα και κοντά στο Royal Pavilion, το παλάτι του βασιλιά Γεώργιου του 4ου, που αποτελεί ένα από τα κυριότερα αξιοθέατα στο Μπράιτον. Με πιο χαλαρή και εναλλακτική ατμόσφαιρα, η παμπ συγκεντρώνει ανθρώπους από τη γειτονιά, φοιτητές από τα κοντινά πανεπιστήμια αλλά και επισκέπτες που έχουν ακούσει τη φήμη για τα μπέργκερ.

Εδώ, κοντά στον σταθμό του τρένου στο Hove, σερβίρουν ένα από τα πιο νόστιμα fish & chips στην περιοχή. Πολλοί περνάνε να πάρουν take away, αλλά διαθέτει και λίγα τραπεζάκια αν θέλετε να φάτε εδώ.
