Hikers can explore the extensive network of paths through the island’s hinterland, while wine lovers can savor the unique flavors of Lefkada’s wines, which have been famous since ancient times. Get ready for an unforgettable experience in this stunning destination!

SURFING AND DIVING

Mili, Agios Ioannis, and Vasiliki are famous beaches for wind and kite surfing. Sailors can enjoy the waters of Prigiponisia near Nidri (see attractions), where there are schools and a water sports center offering a variety of activities. You can also find diving centers in Nikiana, Vasiliki, and Nidri where licensed divers can accompany you.

PARAGLIDING

Take the chance to travel up in the air hanging from parasailing chains over the impressive Kathisma beach, always under the guidance of instructors.

CYCLING

The ride to Gyra is ideal for cyclists (see sightseeing), or up to the church of Faneromeni (see sightseeing) just outside the town. For mountain biking, there are amazing routes inland. You can find organized clubs in the island’s tourist centers that will guide you and hire bikes and equipment.

MONOPATIA (footpaths)

A large network of paths runs through the hinterland of Lefkada. The easiest is the circular route to Gyra. Many trails exist around the village of Kolivata (see discoveries). We recommend the one leading to the forest of Skara. The circular route Egluvi-Agios Donatos is also worthwhile (see sightseeing). If you prefer to walk with a guide, contact the companies that organise hiking tours on the island. For maps check out this website: www.lefkadatrails.com/

WINE-TASTING

Lefkada is renowned for its wines, which have been famous since ancient times and mentioned by notable figures such as Pliny the Elder and Athenaeus in his “Deipnosophists”. The majority of the vineyards are situated on mountainous and semi-mountainous slopes, predominantly planted with the vertzami variety that was brought to the island by the Venetians. This type of grape produces high-quality red wines with an intense red color. In addition to this, there are also vineyards growing the varietal Vardea, which is used to create delicious white wines.
