In most city hotels around the world, swimming pools come alive from late spring to mid-autumn – except in tropical countries where they remain in full swing all year round. In some hotels, however, the pool can be a destination in its own right, bringing together the creative communities of each city.

27

Gansevoort Meatpacking, New York

A heated “urban oasis” located in one of the most fashionable areas of the iconic metropolis overlooking the Hudson River; a pool that has become synonymous with the parties where models relax after the annual fashion week runways.

Marina Bay Sand, Singapore

One of the most Instagram-famous infinity pools. Large and luxurious, this pool spans all three buildings of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and offers stunning views of the city skyline.

Burj Al Arab, Dubai

At Dubai’s iconic hotel, the beach is first and foremost an engineering marvel. It was built in a shipyard in Finland and transported to the United Arab Emirates in 7 pieces. It was then assembled on site. It features two swimming pools, food and beverage facilities, and air-conditioned cabanas serviced by butlers.

Grand Hyatt, Berlin

There are not many better places than Potsdamer Platz to stay on a city break in Berlin. The Grand Hyatt is located right there and has a lovely pool with a spectacular view of the German capital.

Hotel Metropole, Monaco

Designed by the now iconic designer Karl Lagerfeld, the pool at this elegant Monaco hotel is called Odyssey and tells the story of the mythological hero’s journey. In any case, it’s gorgeous. It includes a heated saltwater pool, a lounge bar, a solarium and a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Grand Hotel Central, Barcelona

This five-star hotel is located in the centre of the Catalan capital and boasts one of the most impressive views of Barcelona. Use of the swimming pool is exclusive to hotel guests, but you can always visit the Skybar for a cocktail.

The Berkley, London

The Berkley is one of the few hotels in London with an outdoor pool, which is located on the terrace (but there is also a retractable roof so the pool stays open even in the case of rain). From here you’ll enjoy stunning views of Hyde Park, while there’s also a gorgeous bar and gourmet restaurant.

The Ritz-Carlton, Constantinople

The five-star Ritz Carlton in the heart of Istanbul offers a unique sky-high experience. On its rooftop you’ll find The Roof bar and a stunning infinity pool built in such a way that you feel like you’re floating above the Turkish metropolis.

Two Greek ones

In Greece, the Hilton pool in Athens has been making its own history for decades and is expected to reappear in a few years. Of the functional ones, the much smaller pool of the Grande Bretagne hotel, with that aura of eclecticism that distinguishes it, is an experience worth having, if only to watch a movie as part of the hotel’s well-known initiative some summer evenings.

In Thessaloniki, the Hyatt Regency Thessaloniki’s pool now has something of the glamour that the hotel’s well-established gastronomy services have long since acquired. It is the largest pool in Thessaloniki (1200 square metres!), at a hotel that is both close to and far enough away from the city centre to allow a sense of escape from the daily grind.

The Hyatt Regency Thessaloniki’s swimming pool is a cool summer destination in itself. It is a autonomous universe where one can quickly get into the holiday spirit by having at one’s disposal all that a luxury environment with reliable solutions and proposals can offer.

A hotel pool is, after all, always a good place to relax and socialise. In addition, the Hyatt Regency Thessaloniki boasts a spa that makes a difference in the city and a fitness centre with state-of-the-art services and equipment. The pool is located next to the award-winning Ambrosia restaurant, in case you want to have a more formal meal, but there is also the possibility to enjoy light meals by the pool with a nice glass of rosé wine or a more exotic cocktail. All set in an atmosphere that has been carefully “crafted” with great knowledge and attention to detail, so that the pool experience is truly meaningful. The lounge & upbeat music plays its part, so that all the senses get into the right rhythm.

In the meantime, whether you have booked a room at the hotel or are a guest at the pool, it is worth noting that as of April 29, the Vergina Theatre, located next to the Regency Casino Thessaloniki (information: 2310-491291) will be filled with great performers, impressive costumes & glamorous sets in the context of a spectacular extravaganza.

The new performance by Makis Delaportas and Stelios Papadopoulos brings laughter to the audience through a modern musical satire with hilarious numbers, unlikely situations of everyday madness, wonderful songs and a lot of dancing.

Yannis Zouganelis, Eleni Kastani, Spyros Bibilas, Tania Trypi, Panagiotis Petrakis, Vicky Kavoura and Thodoris Panas, together with Makis Delaporta, perform, dance, sing and address in their own unique way the most burning issues of our time.

“Are things getting worse and worse every year? How did we get through the quarantine? Vaccinated or anti-vaxxers? Who still visits Mykonos? What’s with all the hysteria on social media? How politically correct are we? What is the truth behind the ads, TV shows and reality TV? What exactly was discussed at the Mitsotakis-Erdoğan meeting? Why is a woman “the most beautiful creature in the world”? A musical satire, written briskly, full of twists and turns and spontaneous lines that will make you laugh out loud; a 10-member group of musicians and dancers, under the direction of Makis Delaportas. Choreography by Thodoris Panas and orchestration by Konstantinos Pagiatis.

Ian’s Lounge Bar at Regency Casino Thessaloniki is the ideal destination for a delicious signature cocktail. On Thursday 12 May, Ian’s Lounge Bar welcomes the famous Greek stand-up comedian Saro for an evening full of fun and lots of humour. The delightful Saro satirises, comments, criticises, empathises and answers all questions about human relationships in an evening not to be missed. Also, on Friday 6 May and Friday 13 May the rhythms of Greek music will fill the atmosphere at Ian’s Lounge Bar in an all Greek party featuring renowned radio producer and DJ Tasos Rizopoulos. Entertain yourself with the exotic Dancing with Penguin signature cocktail, a combination of agricole rum, mango, handcrafted fire water and coconut foam.
