Getting There

Plane

Heraklion International Airport (HER), 5 km east of the city, offers direct flights to several European destinations and domestic flights within Greece.

Major airlines include Aegean Airlines, Olympic Air, Ryanair, EasyJet, and Eurowings. To reach the city center from the airport, use public buses (lines 78 and 79), taxis, or rent a car.

Ferry

Ferry and high-speed boat connections are available from Piraeus (Athens) with Minoan Lines and Anek Lines (6-9 hours), Santorini (2 hours during summer), and other islands (seasonal connections). Use taxis or public buses to reach the city center.

For those already in Crete or arriving via ferry, buses and taxis are available.

The KTEL bus network connects Heraklion to various parts of Crete. Taxis are another option for travelers.
