Petite Fleur

The small coffee house on the uphill Omirou street in Kolonaki has become one of the classic, household names for a cup of hot chocolate. It’s romantic and atmospheric, it will make you feel comfortable and warm. Its great success resulted in other shops of the same name opening in other parts of town, so now there are five Petite Fleurs in total.

Petite Fleur uses the premium French Valrhona chocolate and prepares interesting hot chocolate mixes to suit everyone’s liking; ranging from the classic chocolate to special mixes like for example with sweet Vinsanto wine from Santorini. They use organic milk, and they melt chocolate in bain marie, just like they should.

Sokolata

At the ethnic neighbourhood of Apollonos street in the Syntagma area there’s a sweet corner that overflows with chocolate. It’s Mrs Pelagia’s kingdom, Sokolata. It first opened in a small space in a gallery near Agias Irinis square, but for the past few years it has been on the corner of Apollonos and Voulis. They offer white, milk and dark Valrhona hot chocolate, and they make over 25 variations. Some of them simple, others more complex like the white Dulcey with caramel and cookies, or Kalapaia that is strong, bitter with notes of roasted coffee, or Guanaja that is at the same time bittersweet and aromatic.

L’arrêt Du Temps

In this atmospheric French bistro time seems to have stopped, as the name suggests. From the moment you sit in one of their retro armchairs, nothing and no one will be able to ruin your Zen mood. If you like classic, timeless flavours, go for the Viennois with the generous whipped cream on top.

While if you prefer more aromatic and spicy flavours, then ask for the chocolate with cinnamon or with spices. You can also have a hot chocolate with alcohol, if you choose the Amaretto one.

What would you prefer, chocolate with Miranda biscuit that brings back childhood memories or chocolate with Ceylon cinnamon and ginger to give you energy? We enjoyed the Mayan hot chocolate with spices and chili, a special, tasty combination that also allowed us to get the dessert we couldn’t take our eyes off from the display

The Dark Side of Chocolate

With cinematic vibes, romantic, and warm, “Dark side of chocolate” is anything but dark. The smell of chocolate will surround you from the moment you enter the ground floor of this 30’s apartment block. The chocolatier Aristotelis Panagiotaros is behind this sweet project who with his deep knowledge, expertly uses the Valrhona chocolate.

Among other things, we were pleasantly surprised to see they use a special, rare variety of chocolate from a small plantation in Peru. We recommend trying the sweet Venezuelan hot chocolate or the bitter Caribbean hot chocolate and buying sea-salt chocolate bars or cacao nibs, as well as a box of handmade chocolates. They too only use organic milk.
