When architecture and décor converse sincerely, daily life at home can acquire meaning of greater substance.
A home developed with the latest interior design trends is not necessarily functional. If, on the other hand, its décor features the most modern trends, it is not necessarily comfortable and pleasant. The key word to a home offering enjoyable daily life is balance.
A 110 square-metre apartment in Thessaloniki’s Nea Paralia area, or new seaside promenade, designed by the Urban Soul Project architectural team, lets the dweller’s gaze drift out to sea, relieving the body of stress and accumulated pressures of everyday life. The apartment’s intelligent layout simplifies home living.
As noted by the Urban Soul Project team, “the location of the apartment in Thessaloniki’s Nea Paralia area makes the management of the view a main factor in its design.” The apartment was designed for the needs of a four-member family with two young children. It features three bedrooms, one of which is equipped with a private toilet and dressing room, lots of storage spaces, and a small sound-proofed, to the maximum ability, work space for two persons.
The bedrooms are situated at the back section of the home, while the living room, dining room and kitchen are combined into one large space at the front.
A marble-effect coffee table, gray sofa offering light to the space, and a book shelf occupying the wall behind the sofa to highlight objects of sophisticated character, are the dominant decorative elements of the living room. Three colours, gray, black and white, converse and create interesting contrasts.
The sea view floods the space in a unique way, determining its aura. “The obvious approach was to maximise the opening to the view. The linear layout of the apartment’s floor plan, perpendicular to the sea view, challenged this intention. The openings at the perimeter, and the inner glass between the kitchen and the office, maximize the visual escapes to the view, allowing an unobstructed view towards the sea even from inside the office and the entrance,” the architectural team noted.
The walnut paneling in the dining room, on the floor, ceiling and walls warms the space. Small terracotta colour details are a pleasant addition and enliven the decorative setting.
In addition, the large storage spaces (shelves and cupboards) in the office create ideal work conditions without distractions as the better organised items are, the greater the level of concentration. The space remains tidy without too much effort.
This “Slender Apartment” by the Urban Soul Project team enables natural light to create a positive atmosphere, while the technical lighting offers relaxing vibes and allows for physical relaxation as daylight fades.
Earth-toned colours, clear-cut lines, large storage spaces, natural light and a view of the sea; these are the apartment’s decorative elements softening the motions of everyday life.
