On-line hotel room average prices for September have increased considerably at virtually all popular city destinations around the world compared to last month as well as September last year.

Athens is no exception to this trend of increasing prices, the average price of an overnight stay at a hotel in the Greek capital currently exceeding 150 euros.

According to data obtained by Travel.gr through the Trivago search engine, the average price for an overnight stay in a double room at an Athens hotel in September is currently at a level of 153 euros per night, up from 140 euros in August. The average on-line price in September, 2021 was well below the current month’s average, at 114 euros.

On-line hotel prices rise for popular destinations worldwide

Quite clearly, persistently strong travel demand, internationally, is a key factor driving hotel prices higher. In addition, hotel enterprises are striving to cover increased operating costs, primarily as a result of elevated energy and supply costs.

In Amsterdam, the average price for a hotel room this September is 252 euros per night, up from 223 euros in August; in Barcelona, the average price for this month is 236 euros per night, slightly over the August average of 232 euros; Berlin’s September average hotel price is 217 euros, from 153 euros in August; Brussels is at 173 euros per night, from 148 euros in August; Dublin’s average hotel price in September is 274 euros per night, up from 255 euros in August; Lisbon is at 213 euros, up from 192 euros; London is at 271 euros, up from an average price of 262 euros in August; Madrid is at 177 euros, from 121 euros; Paris is up to 298 euros per night from an average of 198 euros in August; Rome is at 201 euros from 160 euros; Vienna is at 167 euros from 152 euros in August; and Zurich’s average price for an overnight hotel stay this September is 299 euros from 269 euros in August.

Bangkok’s average hotel price per night for September is 58 euros, marginally up from the August average figure of 57 euros; Buenos Aires’ September average is 112 euros, up from 102 euros in August; Cairo’s average is 112 euros, down from 118 euros in August; the average price for a hotel room in Chicago is 351 euros per night in September, up from 302 euros last month; Dubai’s average is 154 euros, from 143 euros; Hong Kong is at 141 euros, up from 113 euros; Johannesburg’s average is 76 euros in September, up from 74 euros in August; Las Vegas is at 216 euros, up from 185 euros in August; Melbourne’s average hotel price in September is 173 euros, up from 164 euros in August; Miami is at 214 euros, marginally down from August’s average price of 215 euros; the New York City average is 439 euros per night, up from 334 euros in August; Rio de Janeiro is at 100 euros from 69 euros; San Francisco’s September average is 288 euros, up from 281 euros in August; Seoul is at 94 euros, up from 92 euros; the Shanghai hotel price average for September is 120 euros from 117 euros in August; Singapore is at 212 euros per night from 195 euros in August; Sydney’s average is 178 euros, up from 169 euros last month; Tokyo is at 100 euros, down from 103 euros in August; and Toronto’s hotel average price for a double room in September is 397 euros per night, up from 353 euros in August.
