Flights to Kalamata International Airport (KLX)
Kalamata International Airport (KLX), alternatively known as Captain Vassilis Constantakopoulos Airport, is situated 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) to the west of the city center. Although it’s a small airport, it accommodates international flights, primarily charter flights during the tourist season from May to October.
Additional flights are anticipated to start from Italy and Spain. Consult your airline of choice for up-to-date flight schedules and availability.

Journey by Car from Athens
The drive from Athens to Kalamata spans roughly 2.5 hours and covers around 240 km. Rent a car at Athens Airport and take Highway 8, which avoids downtown Athens. Proceed alongside the Gulf of Elefsina and cross the Corinth Canal to enter the Peloponnese.

Pause at the Corinth Canal for a snapshot and contemplate a visit to Acro-Corinth, a significant archaeological site. Shortly before Corinth, merge onto Highway E65 A/D Korinthou Tripoleos, leading you past Tripoli and into Kalamata via Highway 7 near Kalamata Airport.

Using Bus Services from Athens or Other Places
Opting for a bus is a more economical alternative for traveling from Athens to Kalamata. Buses depart from Kifissos Bus Station in Athens, with the trip taking around 3-4 hours, depending on traffic and route. The express bus requires approximately 3 hours, while the standard bus takes closer to 4 hours with multiple stops.

Ticket prices are 24.30 euros from Athens, 24.90 from Patras, and 15.20 from Nafplio. In Kalamata, the bus station can be found next to the food market and close to the city’s historic center.

Combining Train and Bus Travel
Despite the closure of Kalamata’s train station, you can still utilize train services for a portion of your journey. Board a train from Athens to Corinth, and then transfer to a bus. A taxi is needed for the 5-minute trip to the Corinth Bus Station, where you can board the daily KTEL bus, which takes slightly over 2 hours. The Union Ivkoni bus company also serves this route.

Arriving by Ferry
While Kalamata does not have a direct ferry connection, you can take a ferry to nearby ports and continue to Kalamata by bus or car. The closest ports to Kalamata are Patras and Gythio.
Patras: Located about 217 km north of Kalamata, Patras is well-connected by ferries from Italy (Ancona, Bari, Brindisi, and Venice). Upon arrival, you can rent a car or take a bus to Kalamata (approximately 3-4 hours by car or 4-5 hours by bus).
Gythio: About 100 km southeast of Kalamata, Gythio has ferry connections to Crete (Kissamos) and Kythira. From Gythio, you can rent a car or catch a bus to Kalamata (approximately 1.5-2 hours by car or 2-3 hours by bus).
