For Italian food enthusiasts, the quest to find perfect handmade pasta and pizza with an ideal crust is at once appealing and demanding.

Both needs are fulfilled – at least for people in Thessaloniki and frequent visitors to Greece’s second city – by the arrival of a new eatery at the busy intersection of Pavlou Mela and Palaion Patron Germanou streets, in the heart of the city.

The new Signora Trattoria restaurant has arrived in Thessaloniki to add Italian finesse and a very cosy, hospitable atmosphere to the city’s gastronomic map. Diners well versed on Italian food will surely feel at home when studying this spot’s menu, divided into three sections, Antipasti, Primi and Secondi dishes.

The restaurant is situated off Thessaloniki’s main commercial street, renowned Tsimiski street, which runs all the way to the lovely seaside stretch, Nikis Ave, on vibrant Pavlou Mela street. The area is a hotspot attracting locals and visitors for coffee, refreshing cocktails and Thessaloniki’s latest culinary proposals.

Emerging as a part of this scene, Signora Trattoria has wooden chairs that remind of traditional Tuscan eateries, as well as a small wooden bar at its attic. The spot has already begun attracting diners who appreciate fancy-free, hearty and delicious dishes offering food experiences that could be likened to a quick visit across to neighbouring Italy.

Begin your meal with a delicious Risotto, or the handmade and delicious Gnocchie with gongonzola cheese. Follow up by considering one of the three pizzas on the menu. The Margherita is the choice for diners who prefer keeping pizzas simple. The Diavola con salcicia is the pizza for visitors drawn to spicy flavours, while the Βianca con Carciofi is the selection to make if you like white sauces and artichoke. The menu also features many meat-dish proposals such as Osso Buco, veal braised with vegetables; Escalope Milanaise, accompanied by Italian salad; and Bisteca di vitello, prepared with roasted baby potatoes, herbs and parmesan.

Do not skip the superb tiramisu, a feature on the dessert menu made with irresistible coffee-soaked ladyfinger biscuits.
