Embark on a journey to the less-traveled southern beaches of Thasos, where rugged beauty meets tranquil seclusion. These hidden gems, such as Giola, Aliki, and Paradise Beach, offer a unique experience with deeper waters and a wilder landscape.

19

Escape the crowds and immerse yourself in the captivating charm of these secluded shores, where you can truly unwind and enjoy the breathtaking views of the untamed North Aegean.

With an abundance of beaches surrounding the entire island, having your Avis rental car allows you to leisurely explore and appreciate the stunning coastlines at your own pace.

Golden Beach, the largest beach in Thasos

Golden Beach is a little further away from Thasos Town, 12 kilometers away from Limenas. It is the largest beach on the island, and it is where the most youthful crowd gathers every year from various parts of northern Greece.

It is also popular among those who love water sports, as the beach is organized and offers equipment rental offices and schools to help you become familiar with activities like windsurfing, jet skiing, or parasailing. Families on vacation in Thassos also love this beach, as its shallow, sheltered waters are ideal for young children.

The beach’s name is not a coincidence; it comes from the golden reflection of the sun on the soft sand. Enjoy the endless beauty by taking long walks along the coast, admiring the beautiful natural landscape and the greenery surrounding the sea.

Paradise

Called “Paradise” because it truly is. This enchanting beach of Thasos is located near the settlement of Koinyra, about 23 kilometers away from Limenas. Despite this, access is easy, and the idyllic location, the extraordinarily beautiful, crystal-clear waters, and the dense vegetation dominating the area will captivate you. The beach is organized, with a beach bar, sun loungers, and umbrellas for rent, while beach volleyball lovers will find a court here to play their favorite sport by the sea. Additionally, the beach has a large parking lot for even easier access. Just leave your car there and walk a few meters to reach the golden sand.

A few years ago, Thasos’ Paradise was a “hangout” for nudists, who first fell in love with these turquoise waters, but now, due to the great popularity of this particular coast, they have found a new “refuge” on a specific side of the beach, near the rocks.

Alyki

An amazing settlement at the southern end of the island, quite far from Limenas, maintains its own identity and a distinct character. Alyki has two tranquil bays from where, very early each morning, fishing boats set out to bring back fresh fish and seafood. For this reason, after your swim, grab a table at one of the nearby taverns for meze, ouzo, or wine, and if you’re a history lover, head towards the ruins of an ancient settlement in the area and, of course, the ancient marble quarry, a point of exceptional interest for the development of the local society.

The northern beach of the village is quieter, pebbly in many parts, not organized, and ideal for those who desire seclusion and tranquility away from the crowds

Livadi

We remain on the southern side of the island, at a beach of unparalleled, pristine beauty. Despite being an organized beach with a beach bar, sunbeds, and restaurants, the rocky landscape and towering mountains overlooking the crystal-clear sea at Livadi create a scene of wild, rugged charm.

As you swim, turn your head towards the mountain to catch a glimpse of the Archangel Michael Monastery, which adds even more picturesque beauty to the area. Right next to Livadi is another well-known Thasos beach, Arsanás, with its small coves and refreshing waters.

Giola

Undoubtedly the most impressive beach of Thassos and one of the most recognizable beaches in Greece overall. The stunning Giola, in the Astris region, 40 whole kilometers away from Limenas, is essentially a natural pool formed by rocks, creating an environment reminiscent of another planet.

It’s not the safest place on the island for swimming with children due to the abrupt, rough terrain, and the path to Giola is short but quite challenging. However, the view is well worth the effort. You’ll swim in one of the most unique beaches in our country, while the more daring can even attempt a dive from the high rocks, at a height of 8 meters.

Kinira

In the village of Kinira, about 20 kilometers from Limenas, you will find two large beaches with sand and pebbles, calm, sheltered, and relaxing. Unorganized and steeped in the charm of a bygone era, these beaches evoke the romance of a cozy seaside hamlet where all you need is to plant your umbrella, lay down your towel, and take a refreshing plunge. For those seeking a peaceful retreat away from the crowds, particularly if you’re staying on the eastern edge of the island and prefer minimal travel, Kinira’s beaches are the perfect destination.
